Refund policy

Last updated: 30 September 2026

At MALEIA, our collection is carefully selected for its materials, craftsmanship and design. We encourage customers to carefully review product descriptions, dimensions, materials, finishes and imagery before placing an order.

Nothing in this policy excludes, restricts or modifies any rights or remedies available to you under the Australian Consumer Law (ACL).

1. Returns & Change of Mind

Please choose carefully. MALEIA does not offer cancellations, returns, refunds or exchanges where you have simply changed your mind, including where an accepted order has not yet been dispatched.

This includes circumstances where an item:

·        Does not fit your intended space where the published dimensions were accurate

·        Does not coordinate with other furniture, finishes or decor in your interior

·        Appears different from what you expected solely because of inherent natural material variation

·        Is no longer wanted or required

·        Is available elsewhere at a different price

This change-of-mind policy does not affect your rights where a product fails to meet a consumer guarantee under the Australian Consumer Law.

2. Product Images, Colours & Materials

We make every reasonable effort to accurately represent the appearance, colour, finish, texture and proportions of our products.

However, product appearance may vary slightly from website imagery due to photography, lighting conditions, screen settings, production processes and the characteristics of natural materials.

Product imagery should therefore be considered a representation of the product rather than a guarantee that every individual piece will have an identical pattern, grain, texture or tonal appearance.

If you require further information about a particular material, finish or colour before purchasing, please contact MALEIA before placing your order.

3. Natural Materials & Individual Variation

Many MALEIA pieces are made from or incorporate natural materials, including marble, travertine, stone and timber. Variations in natural materials are inherent characteristics and are not, by themselves, evidence of a defect.

Depending on the material, these may include variations in:

·        Colour and tone

·        Veining

·        Grain

·        Texture

·        Pattern

·        Pores and cavities

·        Mineral deposits

·        Surface characteristics

·        Natural markings

·        Density and composition

No two pieces of natural stone or timber will be identical. Natural stone such as marble and travertine may contain veins, fissures, pits, pores, tonal variations and other naturally occurring characteristics. Where appropriate, natural cavities may be filled or finished during manufacturing.

Minor variations between an individual product and product photography arising from the inherent characteristics of natural materials are not, by themselves, considered defects.

This does not affect your rights under the Australian Consumer Law where a product does not meet an applicable consumer guarantee.

4. Product Dimensions

Product dimensions are provided as accurately as reasonably possible. Because many MALEIA pieces are manufactured, assembled or finished by hand, minor dimensional variations may occur between individual products.

Customers should allow reasonable clearance when measuring doorways, elevators, hallways and intended product locations rather than relying on an exact fit with no tolerance.

Material dimensional discrepancies or products that are materially different from their description will be assessed in accordance with your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.

5. Order Cancellations

Subject always to your rights and remedies under the Australian Consumer Law, once an order has been accepted by MALEIA, it cannot be cancelled, refunded or exchanged due to change of mind, including where the order has not yet been dispatched.

Please carefully review your selection, product dimensions, materials, finishes, quantities and delivery requirements before completing your purchase.

Made-to-order, customised, bespoke and specially procured products cannot be cancelled or returned for change of mind once an order has been accepted.

This policy also applies to clearance, ex-display and floor-model products. Any known imperfections applicable to an ex-display or imperfect product will be disclosed prior to purchase.

Nothing in this section limits your rights where goods fail to meet a consumer guarantee under the Australian Consumer Law.

6. Cancellation by MALEIA

In rare circumstances, MALEIA may be unable to fulfil an accepted order due to product unavailability, discontinuation, supplier issues or another circumstance preventing supply.

If MALEIA cancels an order because we cannot supply the product, we will contact you and refund amounts paid for the affected product and any applicable undelivered service.

7. MALEIA Voluntary Warranty

In addition to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, MALEIA provides the following voluntary warranties against defects in materials and workmanship under normal residential use:

Product Category

MALEIA Warranty

Furniture

5-Year Structural Warranty

Lighting

2-Year Warranty

These voluntary warranties operate in addition to, and do not limit, any rights or remedies available under the Australian Consumer Law.

8. Furniture - 5-Year Structural Warranty

MALEIA furniture is covered by a 5-year structural warranty from the date of delivery or collection.

The structural warranty applies to manufacturing defects affecting the structural integrity of the product under normal residential use, including, where applicable:

·        Internal furniture frames

·        Structural timber or metal framing

·        Structural joints

·        Load-bearing furniture components

·        Bed frames

·        Table bases and supporting structures

·        Chair and sofa frames

The structural warranty does not mean that upholstery, cushioning, fabric, leather, stone, glass, timber finishes, surface finishes or other non-structural components are warranted against normal wear and tear for five years.

9. Lighting - 2-Year Warranty

MALEIA lighting is covered by a 2-year voluntary warranty against manufacturing defects from the date of delivery or collection.

Subject to the warranty terms, this covers manufacturing defects affecting the fixture and supplied electrical components.

Hardwired lighting must be installed by an appropriately licensed electrician in accordance with applicable Australian requirements.

MALEIA's voluntary lighting warranty does not cover damage caused by:

·        Incorrect installation

·        Installation by an unqualified person where licensed installation is required

·        Incorrect voltage or electrical supply

·        Unauthorised modification

·        Improper handling

·        Impact or accidental damage

·        Water or moisture exposure where the product is not rated for that environment

·        Use contrary to supplied instructions

Please retain evidence of professional installation where applicable, as it may assist us in assessing claims relating to installation or electrical issues.

10. What Is Not Covered by MALEIA's Voluntary Warranty?

Subject always to your rights under Australian Consumer Law, MALEIA's voluntary warranty does not cover deterioration or damage resulting from ordinary use, accidents, misuse, inadequate maintenance, improper cleaning, unauthorised modification or use contrary to the product's intended purpose or care instructions.

Examples include:

Fabric: Staining, accidental tears, cuts, burns, damage caused by cleaning products, fading caused by environmental exposure, and reasonable softening or creasing associated with use.

Leather: Scratches, staining, oil marks, accidental damage, environmental discolouration and reasonable creasing, softening or patina associated with use.

Upholstered Seating: Reasonable softening and settling of cushioning or upholstery associated with normal use.

Natural Stone & Travertine: Accidental chips, scratches, staining, impact damage, damage caused by inappropriate cleaning products, and natural characteristics such as pores, veining and tonal variation.

Timber: Scratches, stains, dents, impact damage, environmental colour variation and natural movement associated with changes in temperature and humidity.

Glass & Mirrors: Accidental scratches, chips, cracks, impact damage, staining or damage occurring after delivery.

Metal Finishes: Scratching, impact damage, chemical damage, inappropriate cleaning, and gradual finish changes resulting from environmental exposure or normal use.

The existence of one of these conditions does not automatically determine whether an Australian Consumer Law consumer guarantee applies. Claims will be assessed according to the circumstances.

11. Indoor Use

Unless a product is specifically described by MALEIA as suitable for outdoor use, it is intended for indoor residential use only.

Damage resulting from using an indoor product outdoors or exposing it to weather, excessive moisture, direct environmental conditions or other unsuitable conditions is not covered by MALEIA's voluntary warranty.

Products expressly sold for outdoor use will be subject to the conditions and care requirements applicable to those products.

12. Faulty or Defective Products

If you believe your MALEIA product is faulty or defective, please contact us as soon as reasonably practicable.

We may request photographs, videos, proof of purchase and other reasonable information to allow us to assess the product.

Where a product has a minor failure, MALEIA may provide an appropriate remedy such as repair within a reasonable time.

Where a product has a major failure under the Australian Consumer Law, the remedies available to you are determined by the Australian Consumer Law.

MALEIA may inspect or arrange an assessment of the product before determining whether a failure exists and the appropriate remedy.

13. Return Costs for Faulty Products

Where a product is confirmed to have a problem covered by the Australian Consumer Law, MALEIA will meet its obligations regarding reasonable return, collection or transport costs.

For large, heavy or difficult-to-return products, MALEIA may arrange collection or another appropriate assessment process.

If, after assessment, the product is found not to have a defect or other problem for which MALEIA is responsible, reasonable inspection or collection costs may apply where permitted and where an estimate has been provided beforehand.

14. Damage on Delivery

Please inspect your order as soon as reasonably possible after delivery.

If you notice transit damage, please contact MALEIA promptly and provide photographs of:

·        The complete product

·        The damaged area

·        External packaging

·        Internal packaging where relevant

·        Shipping labels

For efficient investigation with our delivery partner, we ask customers to report visible transit damage within 48 hours where reasonably possible.

The 48-hour reporting request does not limit or extinguish any rights you may have under the Australian Consumer Law.

15. Products Installed or Assembled by Third Parties

Where a product requires assembly or installation by someone other than MALEIA or our nominated service provider, damage caused by incorrect assembly, handling or installation is not covered by MALEIA's voluntary warranty.

For lighting, customers should inspect the product for visible damage before installation.

Where a claim relates to installation, MALEIA may request information regarding the installation and the person who performed it.

This does not affect Australian Consumer Law rights relating to defects or failures attributable to the product itself.

16. Making a Warranty or Product Claim

To make a claim, please contact:

MALEIA Customer Care
Email: hello@maleia.com.au

Please provide:

·        Your name

·        Order number or proof of purchase

·        Product name

·        Description of the issue

·        Photographs or video clearly showing the issue

·        A photograph of the entire product

·        Any other information reasonably requested to assess the claim

We will review the information and advise you of the next steps. Where necessary, we may arrange an inspection or request additional evidence before determining the appropriate remedy.

17. Commencement & Transfer of Voluntary Warranty

The applicable MALEIA voluntary warranty period begins on the date the product is delivered to the original purchaser or collected from MALEIA.

The voluntary warranty applies to the original purchaser and is not ordinarily transferable.

This limitation relates only to MALEIA's voluntary warranty and does not limit rights that may otherwise exist under the Australian Consumer Law.

18. Australian Consumer Law

Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law.

You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage.

You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure.

MALEIA's voluntary warranties operate in addition to these rights.
